Since the SaaS market has been difficult — we thought it might lead to career reflections for all the folks working their asses off.
Whether you’re considering your own options, or thinking about the team members who might, this episode is for you.
We invited Robin Daniels back on the podcast, and went through how to approach the difficult subject of switching jobs, leveling up and much more.'
Here are just some of the many takeaways
The hard skills will get you in the door, but the soft skills will get you ahead. The attitude and spirit you show up with are equally important.
Is someone telling you titles doesn’t matter? It’s okay to call BS. At some points in your career, titles might matter a great deal. And of course, it doesn’t mean it’s the only thing that matters.
Why do titles matter? They influence how others view you, your self-esteem and future job opportunities & compensation as well.
Every week, score your job from 1-10. If you’re consistently scoring 1-3, get out fast. If you’re scoring 4-7, run introspection to figure out what isn’t making work great. Life’s too short to be in a boring or terrible job.
Leaving a job doesn’t mean you’re a quitter. Robin was worried about leaving his first CMO job, because “what would others say about me if I left?”. He flipped it around asking what would people think if he stayed. Don’t let others opinions define your choices.
Two things that always come up in employee surveys: Being overworked and underpaid. But really, it’s rarely the case. Sure, if it is leave. But compare it to working at Starbucks. You’re probably making more money — everything is relative.
